The Center for Community Engagement at the University of Hawaiʻi at Hilo offers a non-credit Japanese Taiko Drumming class with Chad Nakagawa for students age 9 and older.
Students will learn two compositions while gaining a better understanding of the culture, protocols, rhythm and technique of taiko drumming. Classes are Mondays, September 9-November 18, 5 – 6:30 pm, in UH Hilo’s Old Gym. Cost is $85.
Nakagawa is the artistic director of Taishoji Taiko and has over 20 years of taiko experience. He has learned under the direction of taiko masters Kenny Endo, Marco Lienhard, Yoshikazu Fujimoto, Seichi Tanaka, and others.
