The HOSA-Future Health Professionals chapter of the University of Hawaiʻi at Hilo recently received several top honors from participating in the 4th Annual Hawaiʻi Island HOSA Regional Conference held January 12 on the Kamehameha Schools Hawaiʻi campus.
The Public Service Announcement team comprised of Shayne Cabudol, Dean Jason Castro, Rhodney Hernando, Christian Lopez, Travis Taylor, and Jeremy Villanueva took Gold with its topic on “Be the First…Tobacco-Free Generation!”
Daniel Kimura placed first and Kyle Uson placed second in the Individual events in the knowledge exams category for Medical Terminology. Kateleen Caye Bio continued her third-year streak by capturing first place in Pharmacology.
In the leadership category of individual events, Tara Marie Takafuji earned first place for Extemporaneous Health Poster and Bobbi-Jo Oliva took first place in Prepared Speaking with the given topic “Define Your Purpose.”
The UH Hilo team of 12 delegates was accompanied by advisors Dr. Jarred Prudencio of the UH Hilo Daniel K. Inouye College of Pharmacy and Lark Jason Canico of the UH Manoa John A. Burns School of Medicine.
The UH Hilo HOSA chapter will attend the Hawaiʻi HOSA State Leadership Conference February 25-27 on O`ahu.
