The University of Hawaiʻi at Hilo hosts a public lecture on career opportunities in international development by Dennis Flemming, executive director of the Hamakua Institute. His talk is scheduled for Thursday, October 12 at 6 p.m. in UH Hilo’s Science and Technology Building, Room 108.

“Making a Difference: Careers in International Development” will identify the various careers and organizations involved in international development and provide insight into what the work involves in practice and how to explore career opportunities. Flemming has been designing, developing and managing international development projects in the South Pacific and Africa for more than 30 years.

He will also introduce the Islands Rural Development Initiative to support social and economic development projects in rural island and coastal communities throughout the Pacific and Southeast Asia. The initiative is being jointly developed by the Hamakua Institute and UH Hilo.

Flemming’s talk is sponsored by the College of Agriculture, Forestry and Natural Resource Management (CAFNRM). For more information, contact CAFNRM Dean Bruce Mathews at 932-7036.
