The College of Continuing Education and Community Service (CCECS) at the University of Hawaiʻi at Hilo offers a pair of courses on Korean culture. All sessions will be held in UH Hilo’s Science and Technology Building, Room 226. Tuition is $50 for each class or $80 for both.
Exploring Korean Culture: Cultural History will focus on the three kingdoms -- Gogoreyo, Joseon, and modern history. Participants will learn about important historical events that provide a window into the culture of the Land of the Morning Calm. Sessions will be held on Mondays, October 10-24, from 4:30-6:30 p.m.
Exploring Korean Culture: Arts, Food and More will guide participants through the basics of Korean culture, with a focus on the music, food, art and social norms, along with recommendations on places to visit for both new and repeat travelers to South Korea. Classes will meet on Mondays, November 7-21, from 4:30-6:30 p.m.
Instructor Aaron Martinson lived and taught in South Korea for eight years. He has a master's degree in education from Capella University, and an undergraduate degree in film production from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee.
