The College of Continuing Education and Community Service (CCECS) at the University of Hawaiʻi at Hilo offers two agricultural workshops in Kona with ecologist, horticulturist and land planner Zach Mermel. Both sessions will be held at the CTAHR Kona Extension Office on Saturday, October 1. Tuition for each workshop is $35, or $60 for both.
Pruning Demystified is a hands-on workshop that will cover proper pruning techniques for a wide range of tropical and subtropical trees. Acquired skills will also be applicable for pruning fruit trees and shrubs. Participants should come dressed for fieldwork and bring hand pruning shears along with a small pruning saw to class, which will be held from 9 a.m. - noon.
Plant Propagation FUNdamentals will cover plant propagation, including varietal selection, propagation tools, rooting-out environment, grafting, and other methods for rapidly expanding the plant biodiversity for gardens, homesteads, or farms. Participants should bring any seeds that they are interested in propagating. Class will be held from 1 – 5 p.m.
