Choreographers and dancers throughout the Hilo community will share center stage when the Dance Collective Concert debuts on Friday, September 16 at 7:30 p.m. at the University of Hawaiʻi at Hilo Performing Arts Center. Creator and Director Dori Yamada envisions the concert as an opportunity for local dancers to grow and develop by exposing them to many different talents.

“There are so many talented individuals who care a great deal about dance and are always looking for opportunities to share and present their work,” said Yamada. “My hope is that this experience will act as a stepping stone to create bridges between all the dance entities, not only in Hilo, but all over.”

The show will feature young and upcoming choreographers and dancers as well as established performers from dance groups, including Center Stage Dance Alliance, Island Dance Academy, N2 Dance and the UH Hilo Dance Department.

“I am participating in this show because I value its intention to bring local choreographers, dancers and artists together for an event that promotes what we all hold so dear to our hearts... DANCE!” says Nadia Schlosser, a beloved and respected choreographer and the Creative Director/Owner of the newly-formed Paradise Performing Arts Center. Lawrence Mano, another long-time dancer and burgeoning Choreographer, added, “It’s going to be a good show. I think it will be a positive experience that will show off the talent that Hilo has to offer.”

Tickets are open seating and priced at $20 General and $10 UH Hilo/Hawai’i CC students (with a valid student ID) and children, up to age 17. Tickets are available beginning August 23 by calling the UH Hilo Box Office at 932-7490 or ordering online at artscenter.uhh.hawaii.edu.
