The College of Continuing Education and Community Service (CCECS) at the University of Hawaiʻi at Hilo offers two landscaping workshops with ecologist, horticulturist and land planner Zach Mermel. Both sessions will be held on the UH Hilo campus in the PB-7 Meeting Room on Saturday, September 10. Tuition for each workshop is $35, or $60 for both classes.
Edible Landscaping will teach the dos and don’ts of transforming gardens with edible and multifunctional plants. Participants will gain hands-on experience creating a basic landscape plan for their home. Class will be held 9 a.m. to noon.
Participants in Landscaping with Native Plants will learn about the benefits of using native plants in their garden and landscape. Students will interact with a variety of native plants found throughout Hawaiʻi Island's various microclimates, and learn how to incorporate these important organisms into a cohesive landscape design. Class will be held from 1 – 4 p.m.
