A graduate of the University of Hawaiʻi at Hilo has been awarded the Huayu Enrichment Scholarship for the summer of 2016.

Devin Tanaka, who graduated with his second bachelor’s degree this past spring, will attend the Fu Jen Catholic University in Taiwan starting July 1.

“I am looking forward to immersing myself in another foreign culture, interacting with people, and visiting historical sites,” Tanaka stated.

Tanaka attended the City University of Hong Kong while obtaining his first degree at UH Hilo in Fall 2012, and although Taiwan is not his first study abroad experience, he is still excited.

“I can’t wait to learn another language to possibly use back home,” said Tanaka, who is from O`ahu.

Tanaka has degrees in psychology and biology and is an aspiring physician assistant.

The Huayu Enrichment Scholarship encourages international students to enroll in courses at a Taiwanese university in order to provide them with the opportunity to increase their understanding of Taiwanese culture and society, as well as foster a mutual understanding between Taiwan and international communities.
