The College of Continuing Education and Community Service (CCECS) at the University of Hawaiʻi at Hilo presents a series of four six-hour sessions on agroforestry beginning June 4. The sessions will be held at the UH Hilo’s Farm Laboratory in Panaewa.
Zach Mermel of OLA Design Group will conduct the sessions, which will be held on successive Saturdays. A learn-by-doing series for both new and seasoned farmers, this intensive design training will include hands-on interactions with multifunctional tropical and subtropical plant species to integrate into the farm or homestead, an agroforestry plan for a current agricultural operation, and training on the ecology of farms in the tropics and subtropics. No prerequisites necessary. The course culminates with an integrated agroforestry design for the host site. The cost is $85 for all four classes. State Employment Training Fund (ETF) waivers are available for qualified employers.
