The University of Hawaiʻi at Hilo marks the 50th Anniversary of the Vietnam War with a special commemorative event on Friday, October 16, from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m., on the Campus Center Plaza. The event is free and open to the public.
A formal program featuring guest speakers will be held from 10 –11:30 a.m. Scheduled speakers include three retired U.S. Army officers, headed by Brigadier General Raymond E. Gandy Jr., Colonel Debra Lewis, and Lieutenant Colonel Douglass S. Adams. Also speaking will be Richard Ha, captain, U.S. Army and Vietnam veteran, and Dr. Matthew Platz, UH Hilo vice chancellor for academic affairs.
The event will also include members from various military organizations, food and information booths. All veterans with a valid military ID will be eligible to receive a military discount from the UH Hilo Bookstore and campus dining with Sodexo on the day of the event. Special discount cards will be provided to recognized veterans for that day.
