The College of Continuing Education and Community Service (CCECS) at the University of Hawaiʻi at Hilo offers an introductory workshop on bookbinding for ages 12 and up. Classes are Tuesdays, April 10-24, from 5-7:30 pm, in UH Hilo’s PB-7 Meeting Room. Tuition is $75 and includes all required materials.

Handmade Books: Beginning Bookbinding teaches participants how to make a simple, blank, long-stitch book to store written works, drawings or special mementos. Students also learn how to add decorative accents, including a woven spine, button closures, pockets, envelopes and cover details.

Instructor Shannon Moon is a teaching artist who first learned the art of bookbinding at Penland School of Crafts in North Carolina. Her teaching experience spans the globe.

For more information and to register, contact CCECS at 932-7830 or visit http://hilo.hawaii.edu/ccecs/.
