CCECS offers comic book classes beginning February ...

The College of Continuing Education and Community Service (CCECS) at the University of Hawaiʻi at Hilo offers classes on creating comic books, graphic novels and cartoon strip narratives for ages 16 and up.

Creating Comics: Story Development with veteran screenwriter and comic book story editor Adam Sydney teaches students how to effectively develop a visual narrative through the medium of comics. Each participant produces a script to bring to Creating Comics: Cartooning and Comic Illustration. Sessions are on Thursdays, February 15 - March 1, from 4:30 - 6:30 pm in UH Hilo’s PB 7 Meeting Room. Cost is $55.

Creating Comics: Cartooning and Comic Illustration with professional artist and comic art publisher Justin Kamuela Chandler covers basic cartooning and comic illustration as well as techniques for laying out a comic strip page to create a visually dynamic story. Drawing materials and an Internet-capable device are required, and a script, basic idea or storyline should be prepared prior to the start of the class. Sessions are on Thursdays, March 8 – 22, from 4:30 - 6:30 pm in UH Hilo’s PB 7 Meeting Room. Cost is $55. A discount package for both classes costs $100.
