Choreographers and dancers throughout the Hilo community will again share the stage when the Dance Collective Concert returns to the University of Hawaiʻi at Hilo Performing Arts Center on Friday, September 29 at 7:30 p.m. Creator and Director Dori Yamada hopes to build upon the success of last year’s near sellout by creating more opportunities for local dancers and choreographers to share the stage, and learn from and inspire one another.

“This is a chance to build bridges that create relationships outside of the respective dance studios or classes that most of us find ourselves in on a regular basis,” Yamada said. “And to see that happening between the dancers last year was magical.”

The show will feature a range of new and established dancers and choreographers from Island Dance Academy, Paradise Performing Arts Center, Center Stage Dance Alliance, N2 Dance, and the UH Hilo Dance Department. Proceeds will help provide dance opportunities for the community and perpetuate the event.

“This show is a really fun and special way to bring the dance community together,” said Olivia Sandstrom, a featured choreographer and teacher at Island Dance Academy. Junior Hakkei, an instructor at Center Stage Dance Alliance, added, “It’s a perfect way to get the entire community together dancing. We literally feel like one Big Island dance family.”

Tickets are open seating and priced at $20 General and $10 UH Hilo/Hawai’i CC students (with a valid student ID) and children, up to age 17. Tickets are available by calling the UH Hilo Box Office at 932-7490 or ordering online at artscenter.uhh.hawaii.edu.
