The University of Hawaiʻi at Hilo and Hawaiʻi Community College Dance programs mark the end of the semester with the Great Leaps Dance Concert on Saturday, December 3, preceded by a Preview Performance on December 2. Both performances take place at 7:30 p.m. in the UH Hilo Performing Arts Center.
“This fall’s Great Leaps Dance Concert promises a little something for everyone,” said Celeste Staton, instructor and head of the UH Hilo Dance Program. “We’ve assembled approximately 150 dancers from UH Hilo and Hawaiʻi CC as well as community guests to perform original works in ballet, modern, jazz and aerial dance.”
Staton, along with fellow instructors Annie Bunker and Kea Kapahua, presents comedy, thoughtful and uplifting works through aerial dance, guest choreographer Nadia Schlosser offers a composition with community dancers, and Austin McGuire presents his Performing Arts Senior Project, which features a duet using aerial apparatus.
Both events are open seating with tickets for the December 2 Preview priced at $3. Tickets for the December 3 Great Leaps Dance Concert are $7 General and $5 Discount, Student w/Valid ID, and Children 17 years & under.
