The College of Continuing Education and Community Service (CCECS) at the University of Hawaiʻi at Hilo hosts a pair of hands-on digital photography workshops. Both courses will be taught by professional photographer and digital media arts instructor Mark Watanabe, who presently teaches photography and graphic arts at Kea`au High School. All sessions will be held in UH Hilo’s UCB Room 125 (Mac Lab).

Part 1- Introduction to DSLR Cameras will introduce students to the essential concepts and photographic techniques necessary to operate a digital single lens reflex (DSLR) camera. Participants will later learn how to utilize the camera functions such as aperture, depth of field, shutter speed, sensor, light, and different file formats. Classes will be held Monday – Friday, September 26-30, from 4:30-7:30 p.m.

Part 2- Techniques and Composition expands on the fundamentals of digital photography as participants gain greater knowledge about camera equipment, procedures, and picture taking techniques to enable them to take their photography skills to the next level. Students are advised to wear comfortable clothing and shoes since this session requires walking around campus. Sessions will be held Monday-Thursday, October 3-6, from 4:30-7:30 p.m.

A DSLR or mirrorless camera is required for both courses. Tuition is $125 for each workshop or $195 for both.
