The ups and downs and twists and turns of romantic relationships will play out on center stage in the University of Hawaiʻi at Hilo spring musical, I Love You, You’re Perfect, Now Change, which begins a two-week run in April at the University’s Performing Arts Center. Performance dates are Fridays and Saturdays, April 8, 9, 15 & 16 at 7:30 p.m., with matinee performances at 2 p.m. on Sundays, April 10 & 17.

The musical, based on the book and lyrics by Joe Pietro and music by Jimmy Roberts, features a cast of seven men and seven women who re-live that unforgettable first date and trudge through all too familiar scenarios like falling in love, settling into marriage, raising kids, managing a family, and ultimately, senior citizen wooing.

Performing Arts majors Sky Flores, Hoapili Mossman, Bernard Benjamin Villa, and Scott Wuscher share the stage with Performing Arts graduates Alston Albarado, Bria Lani Callaway, Angeline Jara, and Mimi Tincher. UH Hilo students in other majors, Talisa Caldwell, M. Kadmiel Rey, and Brian Wild, join community actors Alyssa Ishihara, Erin Smith, and Michael Stevens to romp through love songs such as, “A Stud and a Babe,” “Hey, There Single Guy,” and “Always a Bridesmaid.”

I Love You, You’re Perfect, Now Change is directed by Professor Jackie Pualani Johnson, with musical director and pianist Mikala Thomas, choreographer Rachel Klein, and Amy Horst as vocal coach.

Tickets are Reserved seating and priced at $20 General, $15 Discount, $7 UH Hilo/Hawai’i CC students with valid ID and children 17 & under. All ticket prices are $5 more when purchased at the door. Tickets are available at the Performing Arts Center Box Office Tuesday-Friday, 9 a.m.-1 p.m., by calling 932-7490, or by ordering online at artscenter.uhh.hawaii.edu. Due to the adult nature of this show, this performance is recommended for adult audiences only.
