The University of Hawaiʻi at Hilo observes International Women’s Day (March 8) with two special events on campus in UCB 127. Both events are free and open to the public.
The film, Girl Rising, will be shown from 4:30 – 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, March 8. The film is about nine girls who strive beyond circumstances and display the strength of the human spirit and the power of education to change the world. A panel discussion featuring eight female international students will be held on Wednesday, March 9, from noon – 1:30 p.m. The members will discuss gender and women’s issues in various countries throughout the world.
International Women's Day (IWD) is a global event dating back to the early 1900s that celebrates the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women. The day also marks a call to action for accelerating gender parity.
The UH Hilo International Women’s Day activities are sponsored by the Women’s Center, International Student Services, Center for Global Education and Exchange and UH Hilo Diversity Funding.
