Two University of Hawaiʻi at Hilo students each received a UH Hilo Semester at Sea scholarship in the amount of $14,370 to participate in the Semester at Sea (SAS) Program this semester.
Ms. Kaiulani Kamau, a kinesiology and exercise sciences major, and Ms. Raelyn Eckret, a geology major, are currently on a 112-day educational visit to 15 cities in 12 countries on a voyage around the world. Their journey started on January 7, 2015 from San Diego, California.
The UH Hilo Semester At Sea Scholarship Program is a cooperative partnership between UH Hilo and the Institute for Shipboard Education (ISE). The program’s aim is to provide a unique learning experience and broaden a student’s global perspective to create leaders for the future.
The Semester At Sea Scholarship is available to full-time and classified UH Hilo students who meet the following criteria:
• Acceptance to Semester At Sea Program
• 3.0 UH Hilo GPA
• 24 completed college credits
• Financial need
• Excellent recommendation
• Preference to first-generation college students
