NHERC announces fall curriculum

The University of Hawaiʻi at Hilo North Hawaiʻi Education and Research Center (NHERC) announces three-credit classes that will be offered in Fall 2014 at the NHERC campus, located at 45-539 Plumeria Street in Honoka'a. The Classified student application deadline is July 1.

Agriculture 230 CRN 14338 – Sustainable Agriculture is an evaluation of conventional and alternative farming methods in the U.S., Polynesia, Southeast Asia, Africa and Latin America from a long-term perspective. Classes will be held Mondays from 4-5:50 p.m., and Wednesdays 4-6:30 p.m.

Anthropology 320 CRN 14337 – Cross Cultural Study of Women, an upper-division, writing intensive course, comparatively analyzes the role of women and women’s lives in different societies through topics such as women’s status, life stages, gender roles, images and power. The class meets on Tuesdays from 2:30 – 5:15 p.m.

Geology 170 CRN 14339 – Volcanoes and Earthquakes is a systematic study of volcanic eruptions and damaging earthquakes using scientific applications to understand their underlying causes. Classes are scheduled for Mondays from 6-8:30 p.m.

Political Science 101 CRN 14357 – American Politics examines the organization and functioning of the American political system. Classes will be held 2:30 – 5 p.m. on Thursdays.

Psychology 100 CRN 14340– Survey of Psychology is an introductory course providing a general survey of the entire field of psychology, and serves as the prerequisite for all upper-division psychology courses. Classes meet onTuesdays and Thursdays from 6-7:45 p.m.

University 101 – Paths to Academic and Lifelong Success is designed for the first-time college student and promotes the attitudes, competencies and skills to enhance academic success and foster social integration into the college environment. Classes will be held Mondays and Wednesdays from 2:30 – 3:45 p.m.
