The Pacific International Space Center for Exploration Systems (PISCES) at the University of Hawaiʻi at Hilo hosts the 8th Women's STARS (STEM Aerospace Research Scholars) Program for high school women interested in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) subjects July 15 – 19. There is no charge. Interested students are encouraged to apply by June 9, 2024.

“STARS is an immersive experience aimed at inspiring young women to pursue STEM-related studies and careers,” said STARS coordinator Chris Yoakum. “Participants will engage in a diverse range of activities, including presentations by accomplished women in STEM, exclusive behind-the-scenes tours at leading science facilities, and hands-on workshops covering various aspects of coding and technology.

"STARS is all about showing young women what’s possible for their futures,” he added. “We aim to foster a supportive environment where students can explore their interests, connect with mentors and mentorship opportunities, and learn about what STEM careers are really like from women who work in them.”

The application form and more information are available at www.pacificspacecenter.com.

PISCES is a space research and education program at UH Hilo’s College of Natural and Health Sciences. Founded in 2007, the program is focused on developing new and emerging technologies that can help people live and work beyond Earth. Through collaborative projects, PISCES also supports the next generation of scientists, engineers, and explorers, providing hands-on work experience and research opportunities.
